The PhD in Computer Science program at UNLV offers research opportunities across specialized areas including algorithm analysis, database systems, document image processing, scheduling, computational geometry, computer security, parallel programming, programming languages, and multimedia. The program specifically includes artificial intelligence and expert systems as one of its research tracks. The department is nationally and internationally recognized for research in theoretical and experimental computer science, with particular strength in real-time algorithms, information retrieval, document analysis, parallel computing, and language design. Four in-house computer laboratories support teaching and research activities. The program offers three tracks: Post-Master's, Post-Bachelor's, and BS-PhD Integrated.
